Since 2006, forest agency leaders of the MegaFlorestais network have been meeting yearly to discuss global trends affecting forest lands, industry and trade, and how agencies should respond to new demands for forest lands and adapt to the new challenges of forest governance. These informal meetings aim to foster closer relationships between forest agencies, collectively strengthening their abilities to play leading roles in advancing sustainable forestry and forestry’s contribution to global social and economic development.
Members of MegaFlorestais take turns hosting the annual meetings and past meetings have been held in the United States in 2006, Russia in 2007, Brazil in 2008, Canada in 2009, China in 2010, Mexico in 2011, United States in 2012, Indonesia in 2013, Cameroon in 2014, Peru in 2015, China in 2016, Canada in 2017, Sweden in 2018, and the United States in 2023.
MegaFlorestais 2023
The fourteenth meeting of MegaFlorestais, and the first since the Covid-19 pandemic, took place in South Lake Tahoe, California, United States from June 26–29, 2023 and was co-hosted by the United States Forest Service (USFS) and Rights and Resources Initiative (RRI).
MegaFlorestais 2018
The thirteenth meeting of MegaFlorestais was held in Storforsen, Vidsel, in Sweden, on June 26-29, 2018 and co-hosted by the Swedish Forest Agency and the Rights and Resources Initiative. Delegations from Brazil, Canada, China, Finland, India, Indonesia, Peru, Sweden, and the US attended the meeting.
MegaFlorestais 2017
The twelfth meeting of MegaFlorestais was held in Vancouver and on Quadra island, in British Columbia, Canada, on October 15-20, 2017 and co-hosted by the Canadian Forest Service-Natural Resources Canada, the Rights and Resources Initiative, and the Province of British Columbia. Delegations from the following countries attended the meeting: Brazil, Cameroon, Canada, China, DR Congo, Peru, Sweden, and the USA.

The eleventh meeting of MegaFlorestais was held in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan Province, on April 19-22, 2016, and co-hosted by the State Forestry Administration of China and the Rights and Resources Initiative, in collaboration with the US Forest Service and the European Forestry Institute. Delegations of the following countries attended the meeting: Brazil, Canada, China, DR Congo, Indonesia, Kenya, Mexico, Peru, Sweden and the USA.

The tenth meeting of MegaFlorestais was held in Madre de Dios and Yucay, Peru, on April 13-17, 2015, co-hosted by the National Forest and Wildlife Service of Peru, and in cooperation with the Rights and Resources Initiative, the US Forest Service and the European Forest Institute. The ninth meeting of MegaFlorestais was held on May 5-9, 2014, and was co-hosted by the Cameroonian Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife, in cooperation with the Rights and Resources Initiative. The eight meeting of MegaFlorestais was held on October 21-26, 2013, and co-hosted by the Indonesian Ministry of Forestry, in cooperation with the Rights and Resources Initiative. Twenty-five delegates came from ten countries: Brazil, Cameroon, Canada, China, DRC, Indonesia, Mexico, Myanmar, Peru, and the Republic of Korea.

The seventh meeting of MegaFlorestais was held on October 22-25, 2012, and co-hosted by the United States Forest Service, in cooperation with the Rights and Resources Initiative. Twenty-one delegates came from eight countries: Brazil, Cameroon, Canada, China, Indonesia, Mexico, Peru, and the USA.

The sixth meeting of MegaFlorestais was held on October 17-21, 2011, and co-hosted by the National Forestry Commission of Mexico (CONAFOR for Comisión Nacional Forestal), an agency of the Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT), in cooperation with Rights and Resources Initiative. Delegates came from Brazil, Canada, China, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Indonesia, Mexico, and Russia, and the USA.

The fifth meeting of MegaFlorestais was held on September 20-23, 2010, and co-hosted by the State Forest Administration of the People’s Republic of China and the Fujian Forestry Department, in collaboration with the Rights and Resources Initiative. Delegates attended from Brazil, Cameroon, Canada, China, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Indonesia, Mexico, and the USA.

The fourth meeting of MegaFlorestais was held on October 5-9, 2009, and hosted by the British Columbia Ministry of Forests and Range and the Canadian Forest Service, Natural Resources Canada, in collaboration with the Rights and Resources Initiative. Representatives from Brazil, China, Indonesia, Russia, and the USA participated in the meeting.

The third meeting of MegaFlorestais was held on October 26-31, 2008, at several sites in Brazil: its opening session was held in the nation’s capital, Brasilia; then in Manaus, the capital of the state of Amazonas. The meeting was hosted by the Brazilian Forest Service, in collaboration with the Rights and Resources Initiative. Seventeen delegates came from ten countries: Austria, Brazil, Cameroon, Canada, Congo, China, Indonesia, Peru, Russia and the USA.

The second annual meeting of MegaFlorestais was hosted on October 16-18, 2007 in St. Petersburg by the Russian Federal Forest Agency, in collaboration with the Rights and Resources Initiative. Eleven delegates came from eight countries: Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Finland, Indonesia, Russia, and the USA.
