MegaFlorestais is part of an architecture of instruments working together to secure Indigenous Peoples and local communities land rights and protect the world’s biodiversity-rich ecosystems and mitigate climate. Although 2.5 billion Indigenous Peoples and local communities customarily manage over 50% of the global land mass, they legally own just 10%. Until land rights are fully realized, the protection of the forests, water, and biodiversity necessary for human survival, remain fragile at best. We are committed to coordinating across sectors and institutions to tip the scales of change. This website was funded by the Rights and Resources Initiative (RRI).
