Rethinking Forest Regulations

This workshop series was designed at the request of agency leaders to better prepare and inform both government officials and civil society organizations for the challenges of forest regulatory reform in their respective countries. By discussing the case of Montana, these workshops have exposed participants to successful and innovative regulatory models.

  • Rethinking Forest Regulations 2015

    On May 18-22, 2015, the Rights and Resource Initiative (RRI), in collaboration with the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation, the U.S. Forest Service, and the European Forest Institute have hold the fifth Rethinking Forest Regulations workshop in Missoula, Montana, United States.

  • Rethinking Forest Regulations 2013

    On July 22-26, 2013, the Rights and Resource Initiative (RRI), in collaboration with the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation, held the fourth Rethinking Forest Regulations in Missoula, Montana, United States. Bringing together participants from eight countries currently undergoing forest or tenure reforms (Burkina Faso, Colombia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Guatemala, Mali, Myanmar, Nepal, and Senegal), the workshop served to better prepare and inform forest agency officials and civil society representatives in meeting the challenges of forest regulations.

  • Rethinking Forest Regulations 2012

    On July 23-27, 2012, the Rights and Resource Initiative (RRI), in collaboration with the United States Forest Service and the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation, held the third Rethinking Forest Regulations workshop in Missoula, Montana, United States. Bringing together participants from seven countries currently undergoing forest or tenure reforms (Bolivia, Brazil, Cameroon, Lao PDR, Liberia, Nepal, and Peru), the event served to better prepare and inform forest agency officials and civil society organizations in meeting the challenges of forest regulations.

  • Rethinking Forest Regulations 2011

    On July 25-29, 2011, the Rights and Resource Initiative, in collaboration with the United States Forest Service and the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation, held the second Rethinking Forest Regulations workshop in Missoula, Montana, United States. Bringing together participants from six countries currently undergoing forest or tenure reforms (Brazil, China, Indonesia, Liberia, Mexico, and Peru), the event served to promote international learning and exchange of forest government strategies.

    On October 17-22, 2010, the Rights and Resource Initiative, in collaboration with the United States Forest Service and the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation, held the first Rethinking Forest Regulations workshop in Missoula, Montana, United States. Bringing together participants from two countries currently undergoing forest or tenure reforms (Brazil and Mexico), the workshop served to better prepare and inform forest agency officials and civil society organizations in meeting the challenges of forest regulations.
